Summary
The extension of the grid with new lines faces often the opposition of the population. There are some solutions to reduce congestions: by installing FACTS. The ATC can be increased. But a coordinated, synchronized, and reliable control of those devices with objective functions and constraints is necessary at the level of wide areas. These principles have been implemented on a reduced scale model. The common control of phase shifting transformers and HVDC and the merging of the network-measurement-economic layers have been verified. The reliability in telecommunications has been checked but the results confirm that this issue will not be solved in a short or middle term.
