Jet Improvement for Swiss Pelton Plants
Summary
The jet quality has a major impact on efficiency of Pelton turbines, easily one or two percent of efficiency may be lost due to disturbed jets. Many of these plants have been refurbished in the meantime, but only in a minority injectors have been replaced or optimized. For this reason it was important to estimate the improvement potential of the Swiss Pelton plants, to investigate influencing factors on jet quality in laboratory and on prototype. Since the upstream flow conditions were found to have a dominant influence on the jet development a series of numerical flow simulations of inflow conditions have been carried out.Project Duration
