Summary

The aim of this project is to examine highly promising technology paths leading towards zero-emission electricity production using fossil fuels. The project focuses on "pre-combustion" procedures whereby CO2 is extracted after gasification and before the combustion process. Research will be focused on concrete high-efficiency processes for using hydrogen-rich fuels in combined cycle power plants, combined with the carbon sequestration and storage. Potential CO2 storage sites in Switzerland will be examined to determine their suitability for long-term storage, with due consideration of not only the technical aspects but also the ecological, economic, political and social boundary conditions for CCS in Switzerland.
